Obama and the 2nd Amendment

Thankfully, Obama is not a strong proponent of the 2nd Amendment.

This is another case of the Secret Obama. Here are the words of Candidate Obama:

“There's been a long standing argument among constitutional scholars about whether the 2nd Amendment referred simply to militias or whether it spoke to an individual right to possess arms,” Obama said. “I think the latter is the better argument. There is an individual right to bear arms, but it is subject to common-sense regulation just like most of our rights are subject to common-sense regulation.”

Obamatars, fearful of single issue guns voters like Eric, will tell you that this is his entire position. But people like me, who, forgive the French, don't give a DAMN about your Second Amendment rights, will be happy to learn that Secret Obama believes otherwise.

This time it's not even that secret. The article quoted above gives the gist of it. But I've tracked down several conflicting statements from Obama which prove that writer's thesis is correct. Secret Obama agrees with DC's ban on handguns.

"Obama believes the D.C. handgun law is constitutional."

They say that was an inartful answer, and wasn't true. But during a debate, the moderator said Obama believes the D.C. law is Constitutional, and Obama had no problem with that.

And Obama took a big part in filling out a survey where he dismissed gun rights.

Verdict: Political necessity is making him hide the real Barack Obama again, but rest assured, Obama has little respect for the 2nd Amendment. There couldn't be more evidence that this is the case. That's another boon for Obama on my tally sheet.

Obama and Ayers

My girl Sarah has been going around saying Obama is palling around with a terrorist, that is, William Ayers. This certainly concerned me. I want to state that it is very important to me that the candidate to be the President of this country be a patriotic American. (And certainly not a terrorist!)

And this is a huge issue here. It is dominating the entire newscycle day after day, and it is all my friend Eric talks about. He has some real funny lines regarding it, too. So is there a Secret BHO lurking below the surface again here?

Supposedly Mr. Ayers is an "unrepentant terrorist." But I asked the Obamatars about this (that's what we at the Faire call the unflinching Obama supporters) and they gave me some very good explanations. I will link you to one now.

Verdict: Not only is there no Secret Obama here, but Sarah is embarrassing herself talking about sideshows instead of the economic crisis. Another win for BHO.

What does BHO really think about the death penalty?

Candidate Obama has been sucking up to the blood-sucking death penalty supporters.

He would kill Osama Bin Laden.

However, that same article covers Obama's efforts AGAINST the death penalty, back before he was Candidate Obama.

In the Illinois legislature, he pushed reforms to the state's capital punishment system to prevent innocent people from being executed. The reforms, after a series of exonerations through DNA and other evidence, included requiring police to videotape interrogations to prevent coerced confessions. Obama also opposed a bill to make it easier to sentence murderers involved in gang activity to get the death penalty.

And, how about this straight-forward answer to a 1996 questionnaire?

Verdict: Obama's current position is that he doesn't like the death penalty but supports it for the most heinous crimes. I actually found evidence of him holding this position as far back as 2004, in his debate with Alan Keyes. But he isn't as bloodthirsty as he acts. In 1996, he was against the death penalty. He still mentions that there is no deterrent factor, even while supporting it, in his book, Audacity for Hope. I think it's safe to say that Secret Obama is not a barbarian who supports the death penalty, even if Candidate Obama is.

Does Obama support single-payer universal health care?

He should.

But does he?

He claims he does not. In fact, he offers a less comprehensive plan than Edwards or HRC did. I decided to do some investigating, hoping the Secret Obama that BHO wants to hide would once again come up at the right position. (Only Dennis Kucinich had the guts to support single player.)

For those not in the know, single-payer would take the insurance companies out of health care, and provide health care for all. This is one of the most basic rights a person can have, the right to medical treatment, the right to health.

Here is what I discovered: a speech Obama gave to the AFL-CIO in 2003 - in which he says, "I happen to be a proponent of single-payer health care coverage."

Obama is now backing off this very strong position. But, with a caveat: In a profile of the Senator in the New Yorker this past spring he offered that, "a single-payer system-a government-managed system like Canada's, which disconnects health insurance from employment-'would probably make sense. But we've got all these legacy systems in place, and managing the transition, as well as adjusting the culture to a different system, would be difficult to pull off. So we may need a system that's not so disruptive that people feel like suddenly what they've known for most of their lives is thrown by the wayside.'"

Verdict: Obama actually wants single-payer health care, as he should. However, in this case, the difference between what he wants and his proposed plan is not because he is hiding his true feelings. It is because he is being realistic, and trying to do what is actually possible right now in this country. I give Obama's health care plan an A+. This is a good reason to vote for BHO.

Michelle and the "whitey" tapes

My good buddy Eric told me today that Republican agents have caught Michelle Obama on tape raving about whitey. I was astounded. I decided to do some research and I found people talking about this supposed tape everywhere!

BUT NOWHERE DID I FIND ANY EVIDENCE THAT THIS TAPE ACTUALLY EXISTS.

I am not convinced it exists at all, but if it does, I would be very interested to hear it.

That's not the only attack I've heard on Michelle Obama. People around here have been talking about her racist thesis paper. They also say it was restricted until after the election.

Do note, however, that the Snopes article, while confirming the thesis, "Princeton-Educated Blacks and the Black Community" was indeed on lockdown, describes the racism as being taken out of context. It appears that it is not racist as the far right says it is. Perhaps some people are just not ready for a strong black woman.

Verdict: There may be a "whitey" tape, but there is no proof confirming this. Michelle's thesis paper at Princeton was generally not racist. Michelle loves watching The Dick Van Dyke Show. I hereby state that the real Michelle is NOT a racist! She may need to work on her patriotism though.

What would the Secret Service do?

This is a timeout from your regular scheduled posting to bring you something totally awesome.

My friends and I were pondering a scenario where Obama is in a very hostile crowd. The people are screaming and maybe even throwing things at him, and Obama is really at his wit's end.

At this point, one figure emerges out of the crowd, and he has a gun. But Obama goes right at him and piledrives him into the ground! The gun slides across the ground and BHO pounces on it. He turns and faces the screaming, belligerent crowd. And he begins to open fire.

The awesome hypothetical question is, if Obama is gunning down the folks in the crowd, would his own Secret Service - whose job is to protect him - would they take him down?

Note: I'm not saying this would ever happen, it's just a really cool scenario. Would the SS do exactly the opposite of what they live to do?

Barack Obama, the Middle East

I've seen some people on the far left criticize Obama for being too close a friend with Israel. They point to comments he's made recently about Palestinians. Here are his comments:

"As president, I will do everything that I can to help (Israel) protect itself ... We will make sure that it can defend itself from any attack, whether it comes from as close as Gaza or as far as Tehran," Obama told a synagogue in Philadelphia, according to his campaign aides.

Obama, who has said he would meet with US enemies Iran and Cuba if elected president, criticized Carter's expected meeting Wednesday in Cairo with Hamas, stressing: "Hamas is not a state, Hamas is a terrorist organization."

Obama grew up going to Muslim schools in Indonesia, and is of Muslim descent (his father is a Muslim). So... Do I believe Obama is some kind of "secret Muslim"?

No!

Obama joined the radical Reverend Jeremiah Wright's church 20 years ago (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/05/31/obama-resigns-from-controversial-church/), and I believe him when he says he is a Christian.

However, he is also more sympathetic to Muslims than any other candidate these far left people will ever get. He had a Muslim upbringing, and a man's worldview is cooked in the crucible of his youth. Obama's comments about Israel now are just the things he has to say to get elected. These far left people complain about him doing the dance, while ignoring the gunfire directed at his feet.

What is BHO's real position? An Arab-American activist says in 2000 and 2004, thing were much different.

"In 2000, when Obama unsuccessfully ran for Congress I heard him speak at a campaign fundraiser hosted by a University of Chicago professor. On that occasion and others Obama was forthright in his criticism of US policy and his call for an even-handed approach to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict."

Verdict: The loony left should quit complaining! They're not going to do better than a guy called Barack Hussein Obama when it comes to I/P issues!

Obama wants Iraq to pay!

An article earlier today on Bloomberg has BHO citing Iraq's surplus, and suggesting they perhaps should pay for some of their own rebuilding.

Now the Iraqi government "has a $79 billion budget surplus thanks to their windfall oil profits,'' Obama said. "And while this Iraqi money sits in American banks, American taxpayers continue to spend $10 billion a month to defend and rebuild Iraq.''

Verdict: I have to disagree with Obama on this one. We can't go in there and cause a mess, and then tell them they have money, they should pay for it. We should treat these Iraqis with respect so they become a dependable friend in the region, and a state that we can use as an ally in the future.

BHO and the War

Barack Obama says he was against the Iraq War from the beginning. This is true.

My buddy Eric was telling me that if we hadn't gone to Iraq, Saddam Hussein would still be in power (or maybe his sons, murderers Uday and Qusay). I can't deny that, but exactly what we went there for is not clear. I question whether overthrowing Saddam's brutal regime was really justified.

However, Eric makes a good point. We need a leader who is willing to stand up for America in hard times, and not engage in needless hand-wringing. Especially in a time of crisis, like on 9/11, we need a leader who puts country first and does what needs to be done for us, the rest of the world be damned. Was the Iraq War right? In hindsight, perhaps not, but at that time, it had to be done. Eric points out that Obama is against the surge as well, which was an unambiguous success. Now not only is there the potential for us to have a steadfast ally in Iraq, but we are fighting the Iraqis there instead of here. Also consider someone like HRC, she did what she had to do in voting for the war and made no apologies for it, even though she changed her position later on. America is the world's only superpower and has the right to act like it.

Verdict: It is true that BHO was against the war from the start, and the war has not always gone smoothly. The question is if we want someone who will second guess America.

Obama and Cuba

Candidate Obama stated his opinion on Cuba as follows:

"Cuban-American connections to family in Cuba are not only a basic right in humanitarian terms, but also our best tool for helping to foster the beginnings of grassroots democracy on the island." As a result, he said, "I will grant Cuban-Americans unrestricted rights to visit family and send remittances to the island."

BHO is claiming that he would make it easier for Cuban-Americans to visit their families. I don't even know if he is going far enough. What's wrong with anyone going to Cuba at all? Is this still some Cold War grudge? Everyone knows that China is a communist country and we trade with them. I guess Cuba just doesn't have the clout of China, or those Cuban exiles are too powerful, or something, but it's ridiculous! It's time to end this embargo, and BHO himself agrees!

What's that, you say? Ah, just the very purpose of this blog. You see, Candidate Obama is saying a lot of things that we should not believe. He tells the lies that he must to get elected. He wants to dance at the Inaugural Ball and these are the steps that have been choreographed. In this blog, however, I will tell you the truth, and introduce you to the Secret Obama as he existed before his run for President.
